Kathleen Alcala elected President for 2010 - 2012 term

The SCJS recently completed Conference 2009 in Denver, Colorado.

Florida International University, together with the Society for Crypto Judaic Studies recently published the first annual edition of:

Journal of Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian Crypto Jews

The editor, Dr. Abraham Lavender is now accepting articles for the second edition which will be published in the Spring of 2010.

SCJS receives grant from MARTIN SOSIN-STRATTON-PETIT FOUNDATION

At the SCJS Conference in Albuquerque, August 5-7m 2007,  The Sosin-Stratton-Petit Foundation sponsored three award winning santeros in a panel on crypto-Judaic symbols and archetypes in the classical Spanish colonial art of Central and Northern New Mexico.  Charles Carrillo, Archi Perea and Carlos Jose Otero also showed examples in an exhibit  and  slides on Monday morning.

The artistry of Albuquerque's celebrated flamenco dancer, Lili del Castillo  was shown in a screening of Revelaciones a dance drama about the Spanish Inquisition, on Monday

evening. Ms. Del Castillo spoke about the work and the inspiration that led to its creation. 

        Miriam Herrera shared her journey as crypto Jew at Monday's luncheon, when the southwestern poet used her craft and narrative to tell of her odyssey.
