A Brief History of
The Society for Crypto-Judaic Studies

 

The SCJS was founded August 1990 by Rabbi Joshua Stampfer, Portland Oregon, and Dr. Stanley Hordes of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Society for crypto Judaic Studies serves the following purposes: The fostering of research and networking of information and ideas into the temporary development of crypto Jews of Iberian origins.

 The Society meets formally once a year to discuss the history, culture and research of the Crypto-Jews.  Next year's conference is our fourteenth, and will be held in Miami Beach, Florida. The locations and dates of the conferences are as follows:

The board decided that new bylaws were needed in order to insure greater participation by the membership and to qualify for Non-Profit status. A committee began rewriting the bylaws and the board and bylaws committee met in Flagstaff, AZ to discuss and approve the new bylaws. Revised bylaws were approved by the membership at the Pueblo conference in 2001.
